Our Functional English lessons focus on practical skills you will use in everyday situations in an English-speaking environment. How do you ask for help in a shop or order politely in a restaurant? How do you express agreement or disagreement in a meeting or discussion? How do you make your point when writing?
General English
For the second 2 hours we work with a course book to enable you to improve the 4 main skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing as well as grammar and vocabulary.
Academic English
Our Academic English lesson focuses on study skills, such as reading, writing, listening, and speaking in an academic environment. This benefits you if you want to study at an English speaking university, for example, it:
- Features thought-provoking topics relevant to students in higher education
- Develops skills required for academic study, including note-taking, essay-writing, and giving presentations
- Includes strategies for undertaking research and dealing with unfamiliar vocabulary
- Provides tips for self-study
IELTS Exam Preparation
In the afternoon, classes will be focussed on the IELTS exam and the skills and strategies you will need to gain a better score. Classes include regular practice tests with individual feedback and advice on how you can improve. We can also offer individual advice for students about your options after the exam.

Taking the IELTS Exam
We are happy to help students book the IELTS exam at a test centre nearby. This normally needs to be done 1 month before the exam and costs, on average, £200 for the test. Please note in the summer the exam gets booked up quickly. To see the dates of the exam please go to the IELTS website.
*Courses start every Monday on availability, except on Bank Holidays. Check our opening times for more detailed information.
