A fun way to practise speaking while learning about different national dishes!
This is a great way to encourage cultural awareness as well as bringing the class closer as students get to know each other. Take a look at one of our students in action:
Mizuha from Japan
These kinds of lessons are common at CIE Oxford. We understand that there are many ways of learning English. Practical English lessons such as this one really help students to learn and give them an opportunity to use the new vocabulary and grammar they have been taught. It is also a nice way for students at CIE to bond with each other.
Filming this lesson was useful for students, as we could watch the videos back for error correction purposes. As a class, both students and teachers could then discuss what could be improved the next time. When giving feedback after a lesson like this, we sometimes use a “praise sandwich” (or ‘burger’!) – one piece of constructive criticism sandwiched between two pieces of positive praise.
These lessons ensure that students have lots of fun while learning, and are given the opportunity to improve upon their existing language skills. They usually take place during the third hour of a General English course. General English classes offer you the chance to study 3 hours of English in the morning and have free time in the afternoon to enjoy the sights of Oxford, do extra study or even get a part time job. For the first 2 hours we work with a course book to enable you to improve the 4 main skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing as well as grammar and vocabulary.
The third hour focuses on practical English and study skills to help you use the English you have learnt,as demonstrated in these videos. Due to the small size of the classes teachers can personalise the classes to suit your individual needs.
