These summer afternoon English classes help students increase their confidence in English and allows them to practise speaking about different topics and in different situations.

Here is another video created and performed by one of our afternoon classes. How many typical superstitions can you spot?! It’s entitled, “The Lucky Day.”

Our summer programmes are an exciting and effective way for you to improve your English while living and studying in one of the world’s most famous, stimulating, and beautiful cities. To find out more about this course, read on.

In the Mornings

Beginning at 9:00 a.m., you will have three hours of General English lessons in a group of no more than twelve students. For the first 2 hours we work with a course book to enable you to improve the 4 main skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing as well as grammar and vocabulary. The third hour focuses on practical English and study skills to help you use the English you have learnt.

Our qualified teachers will help you improve your English language skills and during the summer months there is a greater emphasis on interaction and communication in the lessons.

In the Afternoons

After lunch, you have several choices:

  • Social activities Most students join our social activities for an enjoyable local outing, such as punting on the river, touring one of the historic Oxford colleges, or enjoying cream tea in a café. Social activities generally run from 1:30pm and are finished by 4:00pm. Summer Activities and Excursions for Adults
  • Group classes Students can join a 2-hour group lesson (Intensive English, INT25). The afternoon classes will be multi-skills and topic-based, which may also include videos, project work, conversation, etc.
  • One-to-one lessons Students of any age can have one-to-one lessons with a private teacher in any subject area (Business English, Academic English, Exam practice etc.).
  • All students under the age of 18 are strongly advised to attend a full-time programme (15 hours of morning lessons plus afternoon lessons/activities). Any student under the age of 18 choosing not to attend afternoon activities/lessons must obtain written permission from a parent or guardian.

Study in the University of Oxford

The summer lessons for students aged 14-15 normally take place at Lady Margaret Hall, University of Oxford or elsewhere outside Bocardo House, such as the Oxford Union or one of the other world-renowned Oxford University colleges.
